The antipodean winter is at the "Christmas in July" mid-point and there's currently a minimum snow base of 80cm across New Zealand's fourteen ski fields. This is the perfect time to get a bunch of mates together, rent a campervan and hit the slopes in style! There are several reasons why renting a campervan to take you to the slopes is a brilliant idea. First, it gives you the freedom to travel to your choice of the very best ski fields, on either island, at your leisure. Second, it can save you and your mates a great deal of money. Third, it provides a home base for friends and/or family to gather and enjoy one another's company when not out bashing the ski runs. Campervans are the ultimate accessory for the ski season!

Freedom Factor: There is nothing like the feeling of packing up a campervan with a few mates and hitting the open road. Leaving all of your cares behind, you can put on some good tunes and take in the beautiful countryside while it's all covered in pristine white snow. The cares of the workaday world will melt away as you realise that you have no pressing obligations other than to enjoy yourself.

The experience of traveling to the slopes is all part of the adventure. Rather than spending your time enjoying the check-in queue or the waiting lounge at the airport, you've already hit the road. When you want to make quick time, you can switch drivers and keep going through the night to the slopes which await your arrival. However, if you want to take your time, you can stop anywhere along the way to explore or simply rest up in your campervan. You're in control of the departure and arrival times.

Cost Savings: The combined expense of airline tickets, hotel accommodation and car rental can all add up. Pooling resources with a few mates and hiring a campervan will drastically cut down your vacation expenditure. Gone will be the daily hotel rates and the peak-season travel tickets. You can sleep in your campervan which will allow you to spend your hard-earned finances on important things, like lift tickets or snowboard hire!

Home From Home: No matter how good the skiing is this season, your fondest memories are likely to be made up of time spent with the mates with whom you share the journey. A campervan provides a central location for everyone to eat, hang out and generally enjoy one another's company. While you may need to travel from resort to resort depending upon road closures, lift closures and snow cover, you can use the "road time" to share ski stories, musical tastes and more.

There are districts in New Zealand that do not permit you to 'freedom camp' so it's always best to check with a local first but wherever you park your campervan you can rest assured that all of your essential needs will be provided for in style. The bigger campervans come equipped with a kitchen, shower, toilet, beds and dining area but, most importantly, all include heating to keep you nice and warm on a winters night. During your whirlwind ski adventure, potentially comprised of many different settings, your campervan will be your one constant and your steady touchstone. So gather up a few mates, hit the road and enjoy the best skiing this amazing country has to offer in all of the freedom, affordability and home comforts of a campervan.

New Zealand skiing and snowboarding self drive deals are available from companies such as Skiwi who package campervan hire and lift passes giving you the best possible value.

Periyar wildlife sanctuary is located high in the ranges of the Western Ghats. The Periyar National Park and Tiger Reserve is set in God's Own Country. This sanctuary has a beautiful lake, the heart of the sanctuary.

The building of a dam provides water for the local wildlife. It contours the wooded hills also. Though it's a Tiger Reserve, it is the best place to view the Indian elephants in the act of playfulness by the Periyar Lake. After heavy rains, chances of good wildlife sightings are very less as the animals only come to the lake.

Periyar wildlife sanctuary is also called by the name of Thekkady. You must go for Jungle Trekking in the Periyar National Park. There are different kinds of alternatives available for the Jungle Trek.

Many options are available for the short trek of 4 hours starting in morning and afternoon. You can also trek with the night patrol with the forest guard through the jungle, when there are better chances of spotting wildlife from up close.

While trekking, you will find rich flora and fauna at close quarter, you may also spot bigger animals. This place is ideal for watching other animals, which include animals include elephant, wild pig, sambar, gaur, Malabar flying squirrel, stripe-necked mongoose and over 260 species of birds including blue-winged parakeet, Nilgiri wood pigeon, white-bellied tree pie, laughing thrushes and flycatchers.

The birdlife consists of Darters, Cormorants, Kingfishers, the great Malabar Hornbill and racket-tailed Drongoes. If you trek into the Periyar national park, you would often see a Python and sometimes even a King Cobra.

Boat services will take you around the lake, the best way to explore the park. You can also indulge in trekking and elephant rides in the sanctuary. Better if you visit Periyar wildlife sanctuary from the months of October and June.

The fresh breeze of the wet broadleaf forest will give you a chance to experience the peace and serenity and long to return for more. The environment of Periyar wildlife sanctuary is like a canvas of many shades, in the lap of the mountains!
